With the global events of the last few months exposing the rot in our societies, it’s obvious that people are losing faith in the current systems. Yet there’s a certain optimism in the air. That we can, demand for institutional changes with police systems, women’s right, amongst other prevailing injustices. But change comes at a price. It could be a quick turn overnight that disposes of a capitalist ruling class, or a long gruesome battle, they may require extreme measures. At the moment, what we can do as individuals is continue to closely scrutinise existing oppressive structures.

While navigating these uncertain times, Artish is offering up songs to keep our grip on sanity. The Alt Mondays 016 edition of our weekly playlist is driven by the psychedelic energy we sense in electronic music. The theme for the 20-song playlist is LSD and we feature songs that invite us to question our reality like YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s “Make No Sense”. “Enjoy Yourself” from Pop Smoke’s new album, ‘Shoot for the stars aim for the moon’ and Rema’s “Woman” are the obvious turn-up anthems, but even more full of life are the new songs from Cheque, J Derobie’s “Fake Friend”, DJ Tunez, Spax and Wizkid’s ambient Afropop experiment, “Gbese 2.0” and more. These songs pull a sneaky psychedelic trick, slowly melting across tempos and synth harmonies while ecstatically embedded with a story of the trip of life.
