At this moment when Afropop is at its most globally accessible, the idea of the general sound of Afropop changes by the week; dancehall, hip-hop, R&B and house music are consistently shuffled in and out of our chart topping playlists. But however you define the genre, Wizkid’s overpowering influence on Afropop makes his sound the closest thing to a genetic style of Afropop. Many artists have followed in the steps of his stylistically dancehall Afropop groove but he has only co-signed a few as part of his Starboy collective who can make the most of his cult fanbase, Wizkid FC.

Our latest Artish Presents star, Terri shared the story of how he got enlisted into the Starboy crew and for our Alt Mondays 017 Playlist we feature songs in line with a #MobTies theme that celebrates the chemistry within the group.
